EXCEPTIONAL HIGH MOUNTAIN HUNTING
Chamois, the agile monarchs of the mountains, are among the most challenging game species to hunt in New Zealand. At Monarch’s Firey Peak Station, chamois are present but not in large numbers, so we opt for heli-hunting to pursue these elusive creatures.
Monarch is highly selective in hunting, targeting only mature bucks. This approach ensures exceptional trophies and helps preserve the population for future generations.
CHAMOIS HUNTING
Our Chamois hunts are heli-hunts, utilizing helicopters to locate and drop off hunters in prime areas. We explore the rugged Southern Alps, known for their abundant Chamois population.
FITNESS LEVELS
While basic fitness is sufficient for heli-hunts, a high level of fitness is essential for those opting for a “spot and stalk” approach.
HUNTING SEASONS
Chamois can be hunted year-round. From May to September, they sport a black winter coat with cream facial markings. In summer, their coat turns beige with striking black facial marks.
YOUR HUNTERS SANCTUARY
Hunts take place on Monarch’s own Firey Peak Station or in the Southern Alps. These are typically day hunts, with accommodations at Monarch’s lodge. Upon request, we can set up “spike” camps or use backcountry cabins. Helicopter access is required for these hunts.
